St. Nicholas is the patron saint of seafarers, as well as of children; is a wonderful connection for Christmas Giving to the Seafarers! Corpus Christi Catholic School is joining our parish Council of Catholic Women (CCW) by participating in the Houston International Seafarer’s Centers (HISC) Christmas Shoebox Program. These shoeboxes in many cases are one of the few ways that brighten the life of seafarers calling on the Port of Houston in December. Many seafarers are still not able to leave their vessels for months. Also, their contracts may have been extended for months and they have no way to get home to their families over the holidays. The Houston International Seafarers Center (HISC) has remained vigilant in their mission to be there for the seafarers throughout this year with both the remains of the pandemic as well as many who are dealing with war strife and their families being displaced from their homes
The Christmas Shoebox Program provides seafarers who visit the Port of Houston Ship channel during December a “gift of love”. These “gifts of love” are shoeboxes filled with hygiene products, clothing, snacks and the like.
These items are available at the dollar store. A personal note or card is also encouraged.
